Hejnar Photo – Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic Head Arca-Swiss Conversion Clamp

3.25" Arca-Swiss Quick Release Conversion Clamp for Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic Head

The Hejnar Photo M468MG Conversion Clamp is a professional-grade upgrade designed to bring universal Arca-Swiss compatibility to your Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic ball head. This 3.25-inch (82mm) clamp replaces the proprietary Manfrotto platform, allowing you to utilize high-end Arca-style plates and L-brackets from brands like RRS, Kirk, and Wimberley. Precision CNC-machined in the USA from solid 6061-T6 aluminum, it offers a secure, unyielding foundation for technical architectural and landscape photography.

SAE Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: Specifically engineered for the Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head.
  • Jaw Length: 3.25 inches (82mm).
  • Anti-Twist Security: Equipped with a press-fitted pin on the backside that matches the hole on the ball head post to prevent clamp rotation.
  • Safety Features: Deep relief grooves support safety stops, preventing gear from sliding out if the clamp is not fully closed.
  • Internal Protection: Features a "Tongue-in-pocket" design that shields internal threaded parts from dust and grit.
  • Material: CNC-machined 6061-T6 Aircraft-Grade Aluminum.
  • Finish: Durable black hard-coat anodized clamp with a clear anodized captive knob.
  • Manufacturing: Designed and manufactured in the USA.

Detailed Installation Instructions

Upgrade your hydrostatic head in just a few simple steps:

  1. Disassemble Original Platform: Remove the factory Manfrotto mounting platform and its original screw.
  2. Align the Anti-Twist Pin: Place the Hejnar clamp on top of the ball head post, ensuring the press-fitted pin aligns perfectly with the hole on the ball head stem.
  3. Secure the Clamp: Fasten the clamp securely using the original Manfrotto center screw.

Quick Overview & Key Features

  • Rock-Solid Connection: The press-fitted pin is permanently assembled and will not fall out, ensuring the clamp remains perfectly aligned.
  • Captive Knob Design: The one-piece ergonomic knob stops at maximum opening and cannot be lost in the field.
  • Enhanced Load Stability: Replaces proprietary components to eliminate "play," maintaining the high 35 lb load capacity of the hydrostatic head.
  • Universal Arca Standard: Open modular architecture works with nearly all Arca-Swiss style plates, including those with safety stops.

Comprehensive Product Description

The Hejnar Photo 468MG Conversion Clamp is the definitive solution for photographers who trust the smooth, pressurized fluid movement of the Manfrotto hydrostatic head but demand the standardized flexibility of the Arca-Swiss ecosystem. By converting your head, you bypass the bulk and instability associated with stock RC2 or RC4 quick-release plates, ensuring your micron-level gear adjustments translate perfectly to your final image.

This clamp is meticulously engineered for heavy professional camera loads. Its high-density 6061-T6 aluminum construction prevents the moving jaw from hinging backward during clamping, maintaining perfect alignment with the geometry of your plate. The integrated relief grooves provide an extra layer of security, catching your plate's safety stop screws to prevent accidental free-fall if the clamp is not fully tightened.

Designed and manufactured in the USA, this component provides the structural integrity and technical excellence that professional photographers demand. It is a cost-effective and robust way to modernize your support system while keeping the reliable hydrostatic gearing you already trust.

5 of 5 Perfect Fit November 1, 2015

The only problem I had was that Manfrotto had overly tightened the main mounting screw.
Adapter fit perfectly.  Head is much more useful now.  Should have converted sooner.
